"If the death penalty hasn't been used in 20 years, society should ask if it should be continued. It was supposed to act as a deterrent. If it hasn't been used in 20 years, you really can't say it's a deterrent."

Thomas F. Kelaher
Ocean County Prosecutor, former President of the New Jersey Prosecutors Association

Contact Governor Corzine

Tell him: "I am a New Jersey citizen and I was involved in the effort to end the death penalty in our state. Thank you for your leadership on that issue. Please now lend your support to two bills:

A-2887/S-2692, with an amendment that would provide dedicated grants to non-profits that provide counseling services for the families of murder victims. The New Jersey Death Penalty Study Commission identified counseling as a critical need for these families and its recommendation to provide these services should be honored.

and

A-4018/S-2205, which would provide fair compensation for the wrongfully convicted in New Jersey.

I urge you to take the lead in insuring these important bills are acted on immediately when the Legislature returns in November."
