Part-time Field Organizers for NJADP’s Abolition campaign
New Jerseyans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (NJADP) part time field organizers will work on NJADP’s new state campaign to replace the death penalty with life imprisonment without parole (LWOP). This grassroots campaign works to end executions by raising public awareness about systemic inequities and other issues corrupting the imposition of the death penalty in New Jersey and in the United States. A key argument in favor of abolition of the death penalty is the availability of LWOP as an alternative to capital punishment. Field organizers will work closely with NJADP’s Steering and Executive Committees made up of committed individuals, including representatives from various supporting state organizations, as well as professional lobbyists and political consultants. Field Organizers will report to the Field Manager.
Duties:
Organize special events in targeted areas of the state
Work closely with executive director to insure organizational efforts support legislative goals
Work with administrative services manager to insure that local activist database is updated for maximum effectiveness
Communicate with executive director, field manager, administrative services manager, and other staff and offer support when needed
Qualifications:
Strong motivational speaker that will bring new energy to the movement
Attentiveness to detail, ability to work hard, under pressure, and a self-starter
PC literacy, including electronic communications
Ability to work evenings and weekends
Experience working with communities that have been impacted by crime a plus
Commitment: This is a temporary, part time position. Salary: $16 per hour. Hours will be tracked by employee and submitted monthly to the Executive Director, with expenses such as mileage and telephone. Hours will not exceed 20 per week except when approved by Executive Director.
