Administrative Services Manager for NJADP’s Abolition campaign
New Jerseyans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (NJADP) is seeking an Administrative Services Manager for its new state campaign to replace the death penalty with life imprisonment without parole (LWOP). This grassroots campaign works to end executions by raising public awareness about systemic inequities and other issues corrupting the imposition of the death penalty in New Jersey and in the United States. A key argument in favor of abolition of the death penalty is the availability of LWOP as an alternative to capital punishment. This position would work at the campaign’s office in Trenton, NJ. The administrative manager will work closely with NJADP’s Steering and Executive Committees made up of committed individuals, including representatives from various supporting state organizations, as well as professional lobbyists and political consultants.
Duties:
Develop and maintain organization systems for NJADP, including files, news reports, library, resolutions, etc.
Maintain complex grant calendar for timely submission of grants and grant report backs.
Develop and coordinate trainings, meetings, and travel for volunteers and staff. This involves being aware of current campaign objectives and situations in order to prioritize requests for time
Review, prioritize and direct mail. Compose correspondence on own initiative for director’s signature, including membership mailings
Oversee equipment and office-supply inventories and initiatives or approve service requests and supply orders
Compile timesheets, prepare bi-weekly payroll report and submit to payroll every two weeks
Ensure confidentiality and control access to sensitive materials, such as attorney-client privileged information
Develop new and creative campaign materials
Update content of web site in a timely manner
Answer and screen telephone calls and emails. Respond to inquires and requests for information requiring knowledge of death penalty issues and resources. Research information, as requested, for staff and volunteer committees.
Update local activist databases
Assist Director with reports and special projects
Assist with special events organizing
Assist efforts to recruit organizational resolutions urging abolition from new and current allied organizations, as needed
Communicate with executive director, state organizers, and other staff and offer support when needed
Some evenings and weekend work
Qualifications:
5+ years of administrative experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Advanced level of computer skills and full knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, electronic communications, and desktop publishing
Attentiveness to detail, ability to work hard, under pressure, and a self-starter
Strong writing skills
Demonstrated advanced administrative experience
Excellent communications skills, with the ability to interact efficiently and diplomatically with a broad range of individuals
Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills necessary to anticipate, identify and independently recommend appropriate actions and solutions to complex administrative problems
Experience in performing in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasking and frequently changing priorities
Experience handling sensitive information with discretion and tact
Fluency in Spanish a plus
Experience working in the anti-death penalty movement a plus
Event planning experience a plus
Commitment: This is a temporary position, most likely for a period of 17-24 months.
Salary/Benefits: $45,000/year plus excellent benefits, including vacation, employer-paid health insurance, and 401 K plan
